Hometown Recycling and Duke’s Junk Recycling Receive Platinum Award
The City of Austin certified Duke’s Junk Recycling and Hometown Recycling as Austin Green Business Leaders. The Austin Green Business Leaders program recognizes Austin businesses who demonstrate an exceptional commitment to environmental sustainability. Companies can achieve the silver, gold, or platinum award. Duke’s and Hometown are the first waste management companies in Austin to receive platinum status in the program.
Hometown Recycling, owned by Amoriss Mallett, provides commercial recycling services for Austin businesses. They also give free audits to local businesses looking to improve their sustainability and comply with the Austin Universal Recycling Ordinance (URO).
Her brother, Amos Mallett, owns and operates Duke’s Junk Recycling. Duke’s services include mattress recycling and furniture removal. They seek to give the people of Austin a clean, fast, convenient alternative to the city dump.
Duke’s will haul off items for recycling or accept them at their new location, 1602 Bench Mark Dr.
Austin’s commitment to the environment continues to be one of the most progressive in the nation, and the Office of Sustainability plays an important role. The Austin Green Business Leaders program challenges businesses to demonstrate their own efforts in going green. The program provides a scorecard, allowing businesses to see how well they measure up. A city official then inspects the business on-site before awarding the appropriate certification.
“It took some work to see what we were doing right and what we could fix,” said Amos Mallett. “But it’s worth it to reach the platinum level. We’re in the recycling business because we know the importance of community and sustainability.”
“The Austin Green Business Leaders is a wonderful program,” said Amoriss Mallett, “and we’re proud to be included with Fortune 500 companies and leading local businesses. We’re in great company.”
